TASK 1
The table and charts below give information on the police budget for 2017 and 2018 in one area of Britain. The table shows where the money came from and the charts show how it was distributed.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The table and charts compare the police budget in one region of Britain in 2017 and the following year, showing both the sources of funding and how the money was allocated. Overall, the total budget rose due to substantial increase in local tax revenue. Although salaries remained the largest area of expenditure, spending on technology became considerably more significant.
In terms of income, the total budget increased from 304.7 million pounds in 2017 to 318.6 million pounds in 2018. Funding from the national government and other grants rose modestly by around 2 million and 0.5 million respectively. However, revenue from local tax experienced a much larger rise over 10 million pounds, accounting for most of the total increase.
Regarding spending, staff salaries continued to dominate but dropped from 75% of the budget to just under 70%. By contrast, the proportion devoted to technology almost doubled, rising from 8% to 14 %, while expenditure on buildings and transport remained constant at 17% in both years.
